This crochet bucket bag is perfect for adding some appliques or other embelishments, like my Basic Crochet Flower or Simple 5 Petal Flower. Finished size is about 8 inches, so it’s quite a versatile little bag. Personally, I like to use one to store my makeup!
Rhianna Bucket Bag Crochet Pattern
All rows and rounds begin with a standard turning chain. All rounds are joined with a slip stitch. I use a tch of 1 for dc and 2 for tr. If you use a tch of 3 for your trebles, remember to count it as your first stitch instead of as a plain turning chain.
Size: 8 inches
Yardage: 60-65 yards
Needles: 8mm (US: L)
Yarn: super bulky
Rectangle Base
Make a foundation chain of 5. (This does not include your first turning chain.)
Rows 1-10: dc5
Leave yarn live and move on to shaping the sides.
Shaping the Sides
Rnd 1: pick up 30 dc sts around the rectangle’s edges by working 2dc, dc6, 2dc along the long edges and dc5 along the short edges [30 dc]
Rnd 2: work 2dc, dc8, 2dc along the long edges and dc5 along the short edges [34 dc]
Rnd 3: dc34
Rnds 4-8: tr34
Rnd 9: dc34
Rnd 10: *dc2tog, dc6, dc3tog, dc6; rep from * once to end [28 dc]
Assuming you began picking up stitches, in round 1, along a long side of the rectangle base, you will now need to slst4 to reach the corner of the bag. If you began picking up stitches along a short side of the rectangle, you should already be at a corner.
Adding the Handles
Rnd 11: *dc4, ch8, skip 6, dc4; rep from * once to end [16 dc & 16 ch]
Rnd 12: dc32 into sts & chains [32 dc]
Rnd 13: reverse direction and slst32
Fasten off and weave in ends.
