A bag saver is fab for storing plastic shopping bags and even better for trips to the supermarket, being eco-friendly and re-using your own bags or when you’re visiting a store that charges for grocery bags e.g. Aldi. Even if you just recycle your plastic bags or re-use them as bin liners, a plastic bag tidy is a great de-cluttering storage solution. :)
Most crochet (and knitting) fans will have a favourite bag saver pattern but here is my very simple crochet version. ;) It’s designed for super chunky yarn; for the sample photo I actually used Aran weight yarn, held doubled, to get the correct gauge.
Don’t forget your turning chains and to join your rounds with a slip stitch! Yes, yes, teach your grandmother, etc. However, several times I’ve started a circular project, gotten a couple of rounds in and realised they were getting squint… Let’s just say: if I had a penny for every time I’ve frogged a couple of rounds in, well, I wouldn’t be rich but it does happen too often! ;)
Materials
Elastic hair band/bobble
Yarn equal to super chunky weight
8 mm (US 11) crochet hook
Bag Saver Pattern
Cast on 16 sts around the hair band (multiples of 2, if you need to vary the size – cast on should completely cover the hair band).
Rnds 1-2: dc all sts [16 dc]
Next rnds (to required length): ch3 (counts as tr plus ch1), *(tr into 2nd st, ch1); rep from * to end [8 tr, 8 ch]
Last rnd: dc all sts [16 dc]
Make a chain of 12 (3/4 of the bag saver width) and attach to the opposite side of the bag saver top edge (8th st from ch) with a sl st. Work one further sl st, for security. Fasten off and weave in ends.
